Mercury Cougar 1999 engine is shacking?

I bought 1999 cougar V6, engine is shacking stopped or driving I changed all 6 spark plugs and the wires (cables) and the engine still shaking, could it be cylinder? or what could it be? transmission seems good no problem hefting (auto trans ) I took all of the 6 wires when the car was turned on and 5 of the 6 has electric but one does not do any thing...I just unplugged them and looked for a little sparks, but 1 of them does not work. if it's cylinder do you know how much is it cost to get it done? thanksMercury Cougar 1999 engine is shacking?you said one isn't sparking? trace that wire back to its source, I'm guessing it would be a coil pack right?Mercury Cougar 1999 engine is shacking?good to hear buddy, take it easy, good luck

Mercury Cougar 1999 engine is shacking? It might not be the cyclinder or the spark plug.

There wire that comes from the distributor to the spark plug might be worn out, so check that. Change the spark plug for the faulty cylinder if you havnt.

  • I have a rough idle! Help!?

I have a very bad idle when I'm in the D position. But when I put it in neutral or park, it lessens. I've changed my pcv valve, air filter, timing belt, and spark plugs/wires so far. What could it be? I will be flushing my coolant(irrelevant) and replacing my fuel filter soon. Will that help, or is it my motor mounts?

Also my check engine light is on and I have to change both o2 sensors.

How much is it to change the motor mount? Easy job for a weekend mechanic or no?I have a rough idle! Help!?i dont believe its the motor mounts because it would shutter the whole car regardless of whether its in gear or not. the fuel filter may very well solve your problem, depending on how long its been since its been changed. bad oxygen sensors could also potentially be the same since they can make the car misfire if theyre worn. good luck. shouldnt be too bad.I have a rough idle! 1986 Ford F150 distributor cap firing order? Identify changed out motor.?

I think the firing order and location of the spark plug wires on the distributor cap of my truck are wrong. The motor has been changed out of the truck before we got it. How do I identify the motor in it to look up correct distributor cap wire placement/firing order?1986 Ford F150 distributor cap firing order? Identify changed out motor.?You should see a tag or imprint somewhere on the block that has a serial/model number on it. It may be hard to find under grease, components etc, but it is the only way to know for sure. If you know any ford guys, they can usually tell you what engine it is and you could find the firing order online. Look for that Tag or stamp on the block!

Ford firing orders GENERALLY, but not always are the same. On some of the high output engines the firing order is different.

for id, on the windsors (302-351) the radiator hose goes into the front of the manifold, on the Clevelands it goes straight to the block, and on the 429/460 it goes to the top of the manifold..

How can I get my 92 GMC Jimmy started?

Ok so i've changed the starter, fuel pump, fuel filter, Battery, Spark Plugs, and new wire set. It catches if I spay ether in to it, but as soon as it sucks up the ether, it stops. I am completely out of Ideas on where to go from here. Please help me.How can I get my 92 GMC Jimmy started?needs feul.

    fuel injectors.

    fuel pump relay?

    fuelpressure regulator?

... whne you turn the key to ON--can you hear the fuel pump? if so, dont worry about the relay.

when you try to start it, take the breather off--crank it while some one looks into the intake--you see gas? (if it's a TBI injection, which mine is) if you dont, then it's a injector problem of some sort--check the harness conenctions, go from there.

fuel pressure regulator is a huge possiblity.

    good luck.

just some ideas to toss at you.How can I get my 92 GMC Jimmy started? An engine needs three basic components, fuel, compression, and fire, to start. It sounds like you are not getting any fuel, so checking the fuel system would be a good place to start.

If you don't already have one, you might want to get a manual, which will show you how the different systems work. Haynes is cheap, while Chiltons is more expensive and sometimes has better instructions.

Ford aerostar no fire to plugs.?

1988 Ford Aerostar gets 11v from coil but no spark from plugs. Getting gas to engine. Changed distribuitor, rotor, tried a different plug. It happened suddenly one day it was running good then the check engine light came on as it cut off. I tried it a few times with no luck. Sat for 10 minutes tried it again - it ran all the way home. The next morning I tried it again and it just cranks won't turn over since. Rotor spins; serpentine belt turns; there are no points on this model year. Did not change the condensor or wires however using a digital volt meter I could tell there was current present. 11.4v at the battery. It ran good no smoke or backfiring. (I thought about the timing) Some other threads suggested it might be the relay but I can't see how that can be.. Can any one Help?Ford aerostar no fire to plugs.?Have you tried the ignition switch? I have a 2000 Dodge Neon (dont blame me, my wife owned it when I met her) that is running like crap... doesn't want to start, idles rough and acts as though it's going to die, and sometimes makes a popping sound, maybe backfiring, while trying to accellerate... So, i'm thinking i'll change the fuel filter (thats probably never been done), get new spark plugs (the car has over 130000 miles)... maybe new spark plug wires? How often do they need to be changed? • How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?

i have a 1994 ford ranger, 4cly, 5 speed so there is 8 spark plugs and wires.

i was told to junk my truck due to the Piston O rings r shot. since its junk anyway....how can i %26quot;work%26quot; on the engine with my lil tool kit and try to replace them? make my truck run great again like it did 3 months ago and for the last 10 years!!!!

do they actually look like lil rings? will i need 4 ?

i will need to replace the head gasket and the valve cover gasket too?

seals that hold the throttle body down to the intake?

maybe that gasket too? ,should i rebuild the throttle body while im at it????

btw changing out the spark plugs. and all the wires.

how long will this take me? ya i am a girl, been a while since i got my fingers dirty.....thanks and wish me luck. if i mess it up, then i am out a few bucks, and a lil time.,.,,if i dont try then i am not who i say i am!

have a great day and ty for reading either way...How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?LOL. I got a good chuckle out of your question and at most of the answers. no offense, but you know absolutely nothing about engines, except what you have heard repeated from a shade tree mechanic. and neither do most of the people who threw up an answer.

I will not sit here and waste 30 minutes telling you about the intracasies of an internal combustion engine, so bear with me when i give you the shortest answer for your issue.

Your piston rings are located on your pistons (obviously) and this is an internal part. You would have to remove the engine from the car and disassemble the entire motor to replace the piston rings.

Not only, however can you just %26quot;replace the piston rings%26quot; and drive along merrily. You must take that block to a compitent machinist, have it cleaned and checked for cracks or damage, and he will have the final say-so on how much material will have to be removed from the cylinders to %26quot;clean them up%26quot; for new piston rings.

Probably, (and most older engines fall into this category) you can take a worn out block and bore it .020 or .030 over (.030 over is highly common) and install new oversize pistons and rings, then reuse the rods, crank ect (all good reusable parts) and replace all gaskets with new gaskets obviously. You cannot reuse head gaskets, intake gaskets, ect.

I highly recommend you either let a trained professional do the work, or buy another vehicle that doesn't have these issues, because if you attempt to do this yourself, you will be walking, not driving.

You must have quite a bit of miles on that 2.3 engine, as they typically last well over 240,000 miles. If nothing else, and IF you have enough knowledge on the subject, you can pull another 2.3 engine from a mustang, other ranger, or pinto. Those motors are highly common. How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?Well they are inside the engine so you need to do a lot of disassembly just to get them out. You would need to replace all the seals and gaskets that you took apart (and since you have everything apart its easy to just take the everything rest apart and make sure everything is fixed/rebuilt not just the obvious problem). This is why its not worth it to fix on such an old truck. How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?to replace the piston rings you have to tear the hole engine down. The engine will have to come out of the truck to do this. Each cylinder has three rings on it, two compression rings, and a oil ring. Almost all of the gaskets will have to be replaced. There is no need to rebuild the throttle body. It will take a lot of time. Sorry, but its not worth it.How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?Changing the piston rings is a MAJOR job and cannot be done without removing the engine. Plus, the cylinder will need to be honed as well. This is not a do it yourself type of job.How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?8 plugs so you have 8 pistons and on those pistons you have oil rings and compression rings. if all that,s wrong then your better off to change the motor. How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?blast it with pissHow do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?It would take to long to explain everything but here is a little insight. It's a big job that requires allot of precision tools and equipment as well as knowledge. The reciprocating motion of the pistons turns into rotary motion of the crank shaft. This creates friction and heat where the oil comes involved. There are three rings on the piston that stop the oil from entering the combustion chamber. If the rings wear out, you'll have black smoke out of the exhaust and your spark plugs will be oily. The cylinder walls are probably worn out not to mention allot of other things. It's too big a job for most people. Good Luck to you!How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?I dont intend to discourage you but this is a really complicated job for someone with no experience. If you will need the truck anytime soon I highly recommend taking it in for repair.

If you want to keep the truck as a project and work on it as you learn then I would recommend getting a factory service manual and going along at your own pace.

Good Luck! its a lot of fun to be able to work on your own vehicles and you will learn a lot in the process. How do i fix my piston rings? and what r they?Piston rings go around the piston (the thing that moves up and down) so oil and gas and crap doesn't leak out of the cylinder. They are very difficult to replace because you have to take apart the block. Yes they look like rings, as they go around the round piston. You may as well replace all, yes. You may as well replace the valve gasket while you are at it, because if the rings are fried, then most likely, the valves are going to be leaking. No, I doubt the gasket that holds the throttle body and intake will need to be replaced. It will take you all day, or even two days. Good luck! A Le-mans repair manual like, Haynes or of the same sort, will be very handy!

    94 Honda Accord rotor bolt?

How the hell do you get the bolt off the rotor? It's turned at a bad angle and I can't even see if it's a phillips head, or what. Also, the valve cover gasket is pretty much shot and there's oil in all the spark plug wells, the car should still run, right? It's worked fine up until now, and I know it needs to be fixed, but the car stopped running to day and I changed the plugs, wires, and distributor cap, but I can't get the damn rotor off. I tried restarting the car with the new stuff and the old rotor, but it still won't fire. Hopefully when I get back under the distributor cap the rotor bolt will be a more manageable place. Any other ideas?94 Honda Accord rotor bolt?just get your engine to TDC. (rotor pointing to #1) you can get the screw off from there.

it should be a phillips head.

may also be your ignitor going out.

94 Honda Accord rotor bolt?mark the position of the distributor, and remove the 3 12mm bolts. now you can free spin the rotor to were you can get to it. Also you gotta remove the distributor because that o-ring leaks real bad, you usually replace it when you replace the valve cover. Another reason the car is not starting is the main relay. After you do all the engine work, and the car still will not start. Get a main relay.94 Honda Accord rotor bolt?distributor off tap the engine until the bolt faces the opening and take out. if not break the rotor and make opening with little vise grip take out. u don't have to pull distributor. if no spark try coil most of the time it's a bad coil.

Is it possible for a spark plug head to round?

I went to change a plug and could not remove it.A regular 5/8 spark plug socket would not engage the plug,so using a snake flashlight to look at the exposed end of the spark plug it appears to be completely round....so the socket won't engage the plug.I then took the wire off the sparkplug next to it and it looks identically rounded and it won't engage either...

So is the plug just pushed down too far in the cylinder or is it rounded?I'm thinking it's possibly in far down enough the rounded edge i'm seeing is a different part of the plug above the 6 sided...That seems unlikely but who knows...How can I get the plug out?.... I have a 2000 Toyota Rav4 4 cylinderIs it possible for a spark plug head to round?yes if someone used a cheap socket on it they will round off,you don't see it happening much these days but it can happen,if its in their that tight you will have a hard time removing it,especially with the head of it being rounded off,but its pretty rare these days to see that, sometimes sockets are to thick and wont grab on to the plug try a thinner wall socket that may get it out, good luck with it.Is it possible for a spark plug head to round?I have never seen that. It's not round. The hex part is down in there somewhere.

It comes out the same way it went in, with the same wrench. Is it possible for a spark plug head to round?go to the store and buy a set of plugs that fit your car.. and buy the plug socket that fits that plug.. you will find that you have to push down and turn and then you will feel it grab when you turn the socket.. i had that trouble on a renault.. i recomend a socket and extension and a universal.. with this you will be ok.. 3/8 set ok.Is it possible for a spark plug head to round? You need to remove the air filter holder, you will then need to remove four holders from the center of the valve cover which are held in place with 10mm screws. You will then be able to get your 5/8 socket to fit.Is it possible for a spark plug head to round?Sometimes the rubber insulator on the end of the spark plug wires can come off and stick onto the spark plug. Try taking a coat hanger, bend a small hook on the end of it, and then clip the wire off so there is a REAL small hook-see if you can hook onto the rubber down by the spark plug. happens here in the shop on a daily basis, worse with aftermarket spark plug wires. HINT-once you get it out, glue it back onto the plug wire insulator with yellow weatherstrip glue..Is it possible for a spark plug head to round?possible dirt in the tube is preventing the socket from traveling down far enough? or is the socket not long enough, spark plug sockets come in 2 different lengths. either way, get a magnet to assist getting any dropped item from within the holes.

How to fix a misfire in a 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7?

The check engine light came on, I had it checked and it says that there is a misfire in Cylinder 4. I reset the Check Engine light and it hasn't come back on. I have noticed some odd things in power loss, but it felt more like a weak transmission. Is this normal for a misfire to feel like? As well, I have ALWAYS had the problem where the engine will kind of give me a kick when i'm idling every 5 seconds or so that shakes the car. Is this the misfire? If so, why would the check engine light JUST have come on. I have changed the spark plugs and the wires, my next idea was to check the fuel injector in the cylinder 4. is there any advice you could give me on how to fix this because I really do't have money for another car, so I have to make this one last. How to fix a misfire in a 1994 Mercury Cougar XR7?that kick and shake is definitely a misfire. if you said you replace the spark plugs and wires, before you replace that expensive injector check the distributor cap. on the bottom of the cap are contact points for the rotor. if there is corrosion on the #4 contact this would cause a misfire. the rotor is obviously okay if the other cylinders are not missing. if there is corrosion on the contact replace the cap and rotor and recheck that kick on idle.

As mentioned - sounds like the O2 sensor is not properly talking to the computer. The O2 sensor and temperature sensor are two entirely different sensors. The O2 is in the exhaust stream and measure Oxygen concentration in the exhaust. The temperature sensor measures coolant temperature.Honda '94 Accord LX fails CO% emission test readings! • Issue(s) with '99 Mercury Cougar?

Hey all... I'm new here, and I'm looking forward to meeting you all, and learning from you. With that being said, here's the issue(s) (Sorry if it gets a bit long winded...)

My wife's 99 cougar has been acting up lately. I guess that this has been going on for some time, but she neglected to tell me (I guess she thinks I'm Kreskin and I was supposed to just know it was an issue). Anyways, It's gotten really bad in the past 3 days, when the temperature here dropped well below 0 degrees. The car seemes to start ok, and the RPMs goes up to about 1000, then it falters and stalls out, unless I keep my foot on the gas. When it stalls out, the whole car vibrates very badly. Her check engine light was on (and has been for about 2 years now), so I took my code reader and she had 14 errors. Here's the errors...

    P1507 - IAC Underspeed Error

    p0156 - HO2S Sensor Circuit Malfunction

p0402 - EGR Flow Excessive Detected

p1401 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit High Voltage Detected

    p1131 - lack of HO2S- switch

    p1151 - lack of HO2S- switch

    p0301-p0306 - cylinder 1-6 misfire

    p0171 - Bank 1 too lean

    p0174 - Bank 2 too lean

I erased the above codes so that I'd know what I had to start with.

I called a friend of mine and he in turned called a friend who used to work on fords/mercury's, and he said to check my Vacuum Advance Tube. Well, in the process of trying to figure out how to disconnect it from the boot after the MAF, I broke the flexible tube, so i went to the nearest Autoparts store and got a piece of tubing. My friend told me to plug up that tube and when I did that, the car seemed to respond back to normal. All indications pointed to some sort of a vacuum leak, since when the brakes are applied it took a little longer to stall out. After stubby-ing in a piece of hose, I still have the problem. Another friend suggested it might be a fuel pump, fuel filter, or maybe some gumming up of the gas lines since she has to park in the street and the fuel lines are setting up against the snow. So earlier today I changed the fuel filter. I was suprised that there was very little gas that spilled out as I installed the new one. This seemed to help the idle and it also seemed to keep the car from stalling out. I also added a can of heet and a fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. The car has 64K miles, so i figured that it was time for new plugs. After changing out the plugs, the idle seemed to be worse. I seemed to be getting some backfires while keeping my foot on the gas and again when the car stalled out. I listened for any vacuum leaks in the engine compartment, and i didn't hear any. I did however hear a very repetitious noise that seemed to coincide with the white markings on the timing belt as it rotated, but that could be nothing. I also bled the brakes in the car, as she said they were getting %26quot;spongy%26quot; and she had a hard time stopping about 75% of the time. I did not notice any air bubbles in the fluid as I was bleeding the brakes. I also noticed a smell similar to burning plastic or rubber, and there is a big hesitation when pressing on the gas from idle. After letting the car run for about 3-4 minutes, the Check Engine Light came on, and I read the code again. This time it was P0300 (Random multiple Cylinder Misfire). I quintuple checked that I had all the spark plug wires in the correct positions. Although I did the plugs one at a time so I wouldn't get them mixed up.

So here's what I gathered from different forums for possible causes. Please tell me which ones I should just disregard as gobbledy-**** and which ones have some merit...

    1. Fuel Pump (Title says it's a 99, but door tag says it was built on 6/10/98, so I'm not sure if the recall would apply.)

    2. EGR valve stuck open and/or EGR solenoid valve clogged (most likely by the foam gasket)

    3. Bad Idle Air Control Valve

    4. Bad Differential Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE)

    5. leak in vacuum hose somewhere in engine compartment

    6. Plugged/Semi-plugged Fuel line

    7. Air inlet plugged (I assume they meant somewhere after the MAF)

I've done a lot of searching on several forums, and it seems that several people are having similar problems. However, it seems that everyone has a different answer for fixing the problem.

Please leave your comments and/or if you have another idea. (Telling me I'm a complete moron is acceptable... lol )

How much to fix 97 ford taurus tranny issues?

I need the following things done to my car.

transmission pan?? gasket i think it is called-it is the big gasket that goes along the transmission pan

i also need a flush and fill which is obvious since i have to drain the fluid to put the gasket in

i need any tranny related filters changed

i also need spark plugs and maybe wires replaced

    how much for everything?

thanks in advanceHow much to fix 97 ford taurus tranny issues? The trans will cost around $100 with gasket and filter, a flush is not recommended, it is a waste if they use a additive to do it, stay away from it. Plugs and wires usually around $120 to $150, here at our shop anywaysHow much to fix 97 ford taurus tranny issues? The gasket on these is reusable you might just need to tighten it . Or you have bad axle seal . If you do want to change fluid and filter unless you have the machine to flush and fill your only gonna change about 4 to 5 quarts max . There is one filter . So if you do 5 quarts of fluid figure $25 for that . Filter and Gasket about $30 . Plugs platinium only $3 to $5 single tip only = $18 to $30 . Plug wires $40 so your looking at around $120 total with tax if you do it yourself .

How possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?

89 S10 4.3 220k. My truck ran fine before I decided to powerwash the engine. After I washed it It wouldn't start. When I did get it started, it was misfiring badly and would backfire out of the intake. The plugs and wires I changed at the last oil change. I tried replacing the distributor cap, rotor and the pickup coil. I also had the Ignition module tested and it tested good. I tested the coil with an ohmmeter and it was good as well. Could a spark have jumped into the wiring harness and zapped my computer? How possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?No.. you forced water into the plug wires with the pressure washer and it's cross firing between two cylinders.... plug wires are designed to keep water out at atmospheric pressure, not at 3200psiHow possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?No.How possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?The ecu is not at fault. Don't power wash your engine. If you are lucky it will dry out after it runs for a while and warms up.How possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?Not likely.......It's probably water somewhere in one of the connectors, you might want to carefully disconnect them one by one, and replace the dielectric grease

in them, you can also try clean, compressed air. I personally have

never heard this happening but I guess there's always a first if it is

the ECU....But being it's such an expensive item to replace, I would

    try all other options first.

Good Luck to you..How possible is it that water could have caused a spark to jump and short out my ECU?the difference between the coil secondary and any other system in that car is just too much. even if the spark could wander to the computer it would lack the power to do any damage. allot of us agree that your problem is simply just wet ignition system. dry it out and retry.

    Triton V10 Tune-Up?

How do I perform a tune up for 2004 Triton V10?

The reason I wish to so this myself is because I am living in a 2004 Fleetwood Fiesta 32s and I do not like moving my home to a shop and also where would I wait? This is my home.

    I wish to:

    Change the oil

    New spark plugs

    New wires

Any other suggestions are appreciated.Triton V10 Tune-Up?This vehicle is not require to change spark plug for 60K miles ( it used platinum plug) and it also have DIS (Direct Ignition System) coil on plug. Require special tools to remove spark plugs. So unless you get to that milage don't do it.

As for doing oil change your self it very simple only thing to remember is not to over tighten your drain plug.

Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?

-Hello, My 1999 Camaro had random cylinders misfiring. I got a tune up and had the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and fuel filter changed. I was charged 280 dollars.

-I drove around with the car a bit and the check engine light came on. Cylinder 6 was misfiring. I went back and had the coil pack changed. He charged me 200 dollars.

-The car is fine now, but do you think 480 dollars for a tune up plus coil pack too much? Please consider the labor and how hard the Camaro is to get at.Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?A lot of us have paid, but that is the way works. Many shops have rates that seem high but they usually post them. Each time you enter the shop you pay a Minimum Charge no matter what plus Standard Add On things. If he would have done the whole job the first visit it may have been a little less. That should have been considered in the second charge. Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?i think it's pretty close because think about it when they get the parts there is almost always a markup in price then diagnostics and labor it's fair.unless it is a v-6 engine then it's high. Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack? The coils are very expensive,I think the price was very cheap.

Yes they are easy to fit,but they are still expensive. Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?there is no such thing as a tune upWas I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?plugs about $15.00, Good wires about $30+, fuel filter about 10 bucks, coil pack about $40. all of these are easy to get to on a 3800 v6. cap and rotor about 25 bucks.

Obviously they didnt scan the car if you had to come back for a #6 misfire, which the scan would have seen.

A OBD2 cheap code reader, about 70 bucks, chiltons manual about 25 bucks, a spark plug gapper about 1 dollar. Learning to do it yourself....priceless. Yes, 480 is toooooooo much. The coil pack has 2-3 leads and 2 nuts.....hmmmm 150 to install?? yeah right!!!!

expert tunes tried to pull this on my girlfriend. Told her that the car still had the original coil pack and it was defective. I had changed the coil pack 2 weeks earlier. Its amazing that they diagnosed that with out the use of the data link, which i had tucked away and relocated when i installed her new stereo and they had yet to open the hood too. She only went in for an oil change (because i was out of town). Oh, if they supplied the parts, i'd bet they got the cheap stuff and charged you a premium price for them. I know they gotta make money, but thats highway robbery. Was I charged too much for a tune up and coil pack?Overcharged for the coil packs, but about right on the tune-up. 2 of the plugs are nearly impossible to get at yourself, therefor your kind of at the mercy of the repair shop. The coil packs are very simple to change and easily accessable. Do it yourself for under $100 for all 3.

On the flip side- I've done both for my 99' V6 RS several times... and I still get cylinder misfires... not sure what's causing the coils to go bad, but it seems every 6-8 months I'm replacing one or more. just FYI...

    95 Ford Escort Problems?

so i have a 95 ford escort that i have had for about 6 months. There has been some problems lately with it. When i would push the petal down to try and speed it up it wouldn't. it would sound like it was flooding the engine and i was only getting around 11mpg. So i first had a new catalytic converter put on that didn't do anything. Then i changed the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, wires, cal-pac module and still didn't help it. So then the timing belt was change and then finally a new fuel pump was put on and for about 2 days it was running better than before it went downhill. So about 3 days after the fuel pump was put in the check coolant light came on and i didn't think of anything and filled it up how high i was suppose to. After that it smelled like it was running hot when i went to go get a friend. When i got to his house my car just died on me and now won't even start. It sounds like its not getting any gas and doesn't want to start. What should i do? I need to know asap.95 Ford Escort Problems? To properly diagnose I'd have to look at it, but you might try checking the oil level to start. I know simple but look at the oil itself, is it cloudy or milky? If it's cloudy or looks milky it could be a sign of a blown water jacket(cracked block) Personal opinion due to the age and make I would guess it's a blown head gasket. The next step is to pull your spark plugs one at a time and check each one for burning or rust, if you find rust or moisture on the plug tip you are getting H2O into your system and it's time to retire the vehicle.

Good luck, I hope I'm wrong.95 Ford Escort Problems?I would get a compression test on the head. It sounds like you could be weeping from the head gasket. It could also be a timing issue, but if you've had new belts fitted, they should have set it up properly for you as part of the job.95 Ford Escort Problems?my best advice is just get what ever money you can for it, I had a 2002 escort, and i did some work on it, (not as much as you though) my issue was every time i went to a stop light or stop sigh it would idle really high then go so low that it would stall out. no one could really tell me why, so i just traded it in and got a 06 chevy malibu. best thing i did. but some one did tell me to get the computer checked out. i wish you the best of luck, get it started and dump it!95 Ford Escort Problems?HOLLY COW!

You could have bought another one with the cost of all the parts you replaced......

Go buy a 1990s Chevy Camaro and throw that pile of junk away.95 Ford Escort Problems?First, you call a junk yard.

Second, you ask them to come to your house

Last, you tell them to tow that piece of junk away!95 Ford Escort Problems?Seems likeyou put a lot of money into the car right after you got it.

Its a 95 and thats OBD1 and it is possible to get any trouble codes out of it without a scanner. some websites will tell you how to do it.

Here are just some possibles, etc.

Get a spray can of starting fluid and a friend.

You open the hood and spray some of it thru the breather. have the friend try to start it. If you get any sort of ' pop ' or ' cough ' then you know you have spark but its not getting fuel.

It coulod be an EGR valve that is stuck open,,, you could have two thermostat sensors and only changes one,,, etc.95 Ford Escort Problems? Before you call the junk yard. Do this.... I know that you already changed out the wires. But follow your coil wire to the coil. Get a hand sprayer on your coil pack or coil and crank this over with someones help. Look for the arching from the coil. This sounds like the coil has gone bad...

Good luck95 Ford Escort Problems?it might be the fuel pump regulator, not letting enough gas into the injectors. also check to see how dirty the throttle body is, it might not letting it get enough air.

I need to know asap.95 Ford Escort Problems?Who was the mechanic who sold you the catalytic converter, and all those other things, they should give your money back. It is a pure case of mechanic mal-practice. You got ripped off.

Considering all you have said above I don't think we can solve this on the interenet. You better find a competent auto mechanic. Someone who knows what he is doing could have this figured out in short order. Try the Ford dealer.95 Ford Escort Problems? One thing is you didn't mention when changing the catalytic converter that you changed the oxygen sensor and the O2 sensor should of been replaced bec it caused the catalytic converter to go more then likely.

First off is it trying to turn over at all , second is there spark , 3rd is there gas, 4th you over heating it may of caused the electrical to get wet and that's why it's resistant to start.

Hope that helps and best of luck , by the way I'd be checking that rad ,rad roses , thermostat area and under the car to see if any antifreeze is leaking.95 Ford Escort Problems?I'm gonna take a shot in the dark as I think you covered about everything except one , Go out and pull you dip stick , any oil? How about any water, sounds to me as though the engine is blown. Head gasket blew or no oil if neither of these ,,,look on the ground for oil , I dont want to sound mean but I think it sounds like a blown engine.. Wish ya Luck ,I have a 1993 that I use to scoot around in when I dont drive the truck.

    An important car question?

I have a station wagon saturn 1997 that has a starting-up delay. When I stick the key in the ignition and turn it, it just crancks.. then I have to turn the key off and start again, this time it starts perfectly. I have changed the spark plugs and the wiring . the battery is strong enough and the fuel pump has no problem. What is the problem with my car and how can I fix it .Thanks.An important car question?Have the timing adjusted. An important car question?Replace your plugged up fuel filter first.

It's cheap and easy.An important car question?have same problem don't know and living with it. take to dealer and ask the to check it out
